Albion West End Tops Out. Interior Renderings Released.
The 30-story high-rise apartment building at Lindell and Kingshighway has topped out and, in doing so, has completed a wall of buildings stretching from Barnes Jewish Plaza on the South to Maryland Plaza on the North.
The site was never home to a previous structure, a rarity in the City. Albion West End was originally announced in February 2022, had a new design revealed in January 2025, and began construction in July 2025.
Like 100 North Kingshighway did in 2020, the Albion has changed the feel of the Central West End neighborhood and made it feel even more "big city" than it was before. When its 305 apartments opens to residents next summer, the neighborhood should get a little bit more vibrant as those residents will be walking around, dining, and shopping. The additional tax revenue generated by the property, and the residents living there and taking part in neighborhood life, is of much benefit to the City compared to what the previous surface parking lot was contributing.
With the topping out occurring, Albion Residential released renderings showing off the building's lobby, pool deck, gym, citrus bar, theater room, and rooftop lounge. The property website also includes images of some of the apartment interiors. All of these are featured in the gallery at the end of the post.
Albion West End was developed by Albion Residential of Chicago and Koplar Properties of St. Louis. The Koplar family has owned this site for decades and has long planned a residential development here. The building was designed by the Lamar Johnson Collaborative and built by Clayco. Early leasing activity will begin this winter.
As construction nears its end, it's possible that any future high-rise of this magnitude will be determined based on leasing success and whether Albion and One Hundred can complement each other instead of cannibalizing each other's renter base. The Central West End, as we know, is the City's premier urban neighborhood and with multiple sites that make sense for future new high-rises, success here will determine which one gets chosen. Two to watch right now: Straubs at Kingshighway and Maryland and the parking lot at Lindell and Euclid.
