If you frequent the Central West End, Forest Park, Kingshighway, or Lindell, you'll be able to watch progress on the Albion West End tower.

Construction crews with Clayco recently arrived on the site at Lindell and Kingsighwhay and hit the ground running with foundation work underway. Three foundation drills were operating when I passed by the on the morning of July 23rd. Construction fencing is up along Kingshighay and Lindell. An aspalt pedestrian path has been built along Lindell as a temporary re-routing of the sidewalk for the duration of construction.

The project has been a long time coming with the Albion West End project being announced in February 2022. Prior to that, the site was home to speculation for years about whhat project the Koplar Family may one day develop at the site. In 2013, rumors broke out with reports stating that the Koplars hired Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF) of New York to design a landmark tower there along with the Koman Group. Outside of that, rumors came and went as 100 North Kingshigway was developed and opened to great success. After going silent for a while, the project returned with a revised design and new lead design architect. Just two months ago, the project went out for bid on the SLDC Planroom.

Albion West End's proposal was met with enthusiasm and the approval process saw little opposition from neighbors and residents of the neighborhood.

With its prime spot sandwiched between 100 and the Chase Park Plaza, the tower will fill in a gap and complete a street wall of large buildings that stretches from Barnes Jewish Plaza to Maryland Plaza. The skyline overlooking Central Park already punches far above its weight for a City of St. Louis size, Albion will just improve it.

The tower will rise 30-stories/320ft and feature 305 apartments, 1619sf of retail space, and 310 parking spaces. It's designed by the Lamar Johnson Collaborative. Albion Residential and Koplar Properties are the developers.

Chris, I think you had a little Freudian slip in your article when you used “Central Park” to describe “Forest Park”. Totally understandable!! 😉
