Yet another office-to-other usage conversion in Downtown Clayton has been officially proposed. This time, the focus is on the building at 200 South Hanley.
The 11-story building was constructed in 1965 and features around 110,000sf of office space. Over the years the building served numerous businesses in Clayton (like lawyers, consultants, and such), but as newer office buildings were built, and others were renovated, 200 South Hanley saw increased vacancy and less interest among potential tenants. Now the building's future revolves around becoming a hotel.
Led by Midas Hospitality, and design work led by Trivers, the building will become a 150 roon hotel. A brand is not yet connected to the project. For the record, the most recent hotels to open in Downtown Clayton include an AC Hotel, Residence Inn and Le Meridien.
A new one-story addition will be constructed on the building's south side and serve as the new hotel lobby and some meeting space. The office building's current lobby is shown as becoming a bar and restaurant space. The rooftop is planned to feature a bar and lounge space with some outdoor seating.
The plans were submitted to the City of Clayton on April 6th 2026 and a formal appearence before the Architectural Review Board has yet to be scheduled. A project cost and timeline are not yet available.
The redevelopment of 200 South Hanley is the second redevelopment in Downtown Clayton. At the former 7-Up HQ at 121 South Meramec, where a high-rise apartment building was once planned, plans now call for that building to be redeveloped into apartments. Some early construction activity is ongoing there.
