I grew up in South St. Louis in the 40s and 50s and graduated from Washington U. with a BFA degree in painting. In 1961 I moved to New York to pursue my dreams, and married there. Soon I gravitated to art history with a special interest in architectural history and eventually got a PhD from Indiana U, in Bloomington. I taught at the university level for 36 years and have lived in southern Minnesota since 1985, retiring from teaching in 2008. I frequently visit St. Louis where I have many relatives and small circle of old friends.
